The meeting place will be at Commuter Park & Ride, just north of Orem's Diner on Route 7 in Wilton (near junction with Route 106, Wolfpit Road). Parking will be available.
The event will include a walk to the ceremony site (1.1 miles of surfaced trail) and brief remarks from individual and corporate trail donors.
For the work day, volunteers should bring work gloves, and any (or none) of the following tools: small handsaw, leaf rake, loppers, and a pole/pruning saw. Water will be provided. The principal new section of the trail will run 0.5 miles from Sharp Hill Road to near Twin Oak Lane, extending the existing east-side Loop. On the west side of the Loop, a trail will be built along the south side of Horseshoe Pond.
Both sections will be designed and built by Vermont-based Timber and Stone LLC; the same company that built Norwalk River Valley Trail sections in Wilton in 2014. The NRVT plans next to extend the eastside loop as far as Skunk Lane.
If an additional $250,000 can be raised, this goal can be achieved in 2015. The eastside loop will eventually run to Pimpewaug Road, the Wilton Family Y, and Cannondale Village, meeting an expanded westside loop at Allen's Meadows.
