O'Connell Scales Volcano Summit

Wilton's Matt O'Connell and Norwalk's Emma Kirwan completed their climb to the 19,334-foot peak of the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador last week. They made the ascent to raise money for Kirwan's nonprofit organization, Peaks Over Poverty, which promotes healthy living and conservation. Money raised by Emma's nonprofit go to benefit mountain villagers who live at high altitudes and helps them adjust to climate change.

She made the trip with O'Connell, a high school friend from Wilton, and a tour guide. For more pictures and video from the climb, log on to the Peaks Over Poverty Facebook page or on her blog.
