Homeowners hit their driveways to shovel, and snowplow operators headed out to clear streets and parking lots while state and municipal crews tackled major roads and highways.

The region remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. Saturday. across much of Connecticut, the Hudson River Valley and northern New Jersey.

Light freezing rain and another 1 to 3 inches of snow was predicted to fall during the afternoon across the region, transitioning between the two types of precipitation. Some areas could see another 2 to 4 inches of snow. Snow could be heavy at times in the afternoon.

Temperatures will remain in the lower 30s throughout Saturday.

Slippery travel conditions are reported due to the snow and ice covering roads, especially secondary roads. No major problems were reported on the state's highways, which were clear but wet.
