The spider is not the first animal to find the Northeast Courtyard of the library to be a suitable home. Earlier this year a mother duck used the courtyard to give birth to and raise her 13 ducklings, before a neighboring hawk forced the library to move the family to a coop in Ridgefield.
According to GreenNature.com , garden spiders or cross orbweavers are one of the most common types of spiders found coast-to-coast in the United States.
