Wilton Actress Makes Her Mark In 'A Streetcar Named Desire' At Curtain Call

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Streetcar Named Desire opens Thursday at the Curtain Call Dressing Room Theatre in Stamford.

Due to unprecedented demand, an additional weekend has been added to the run, which will now close on Nov. 9.

"Streetcar has long been a favorite of mine," said Lou Ursone, Curtain Call executive director and producer for this run, "and I am thrilled to be presenting it in our very intimate Dressing Room Theatre space. The play has some of the best-known characters in American literature and, it's back in Connecticut where it all started."

The drama by Tennessee Williams made its debut 66 years ago at The Shubert Theatre in New Haven. In a survey of several hundred theater professionals published this past year by Entertainment Weekly, A Streetcar Named Desire placed second of the 100 Best American Plays, right behind Death of a Salesman.

The cast includes many past Curtain Call performers and Fairfield County residents.  Stamford resident, Michael Limone plays Stanley Kowalski and Curtain Call newcomer, Alexandra Burke of Fairfield plays his wife, Stella.

Norwalk's Eric Dino and Warren Chao; Stamford's Annalisa Dinucci, Bennett Leeds and Marcy Mattison-Vega: Westport's Manny Lieberman; Redding's Jason Howard and Wilton's Christina Richardson are also in the production.

The play is directed by Will Jeffries (Bethel) with assistant director, John Atkin (Norwalk); stage management is led by Tim Cronin, assisted by Julia Zimmerman (both of Stamford). Curtain Call's associate artistic director, Peter Barbieri, Jr. (Norwalk) is handling production design and costumes are created by Helen Adams of Stratford.

Tickets are available from the box office at 203-461-6358 or www.curtaincallinc.com. Ticket prices: Adults - $29; Senior Citizens - $22; Students/Children - $14.50. The opening weekend is almost completely sold out.

The remainder of Curtain Call's 23rd season includes, Fiddler on the Roof, Gypsy, The Wizard of Oz, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Les Miserables, You Can’t Take It with You, The Hallelujah Girls and many other special events including concerts by Michael Jovovich and Frank Mastrone.

Curtain Call is a non-profit, professionally-run, community-based theatre company in residence at The Sterling Farms Theatre Complex, 1349 Newfield Ave.  in Stamford. Year-round productions and educational workshops are presented by and for area residents in The Kweskin Theatre and The Dressing Room Theatre.
