The grant will be used for costs such as supplies, signs and copies.

"Our state grant is nearly complete, leaving us with limited funds to pursue the daily tasks associated with this endeavor," Norwalk River Valley Trail steering committee chairman Patricia Sesto said in a statement. "These items may seem small, but in fact they form the foundation that enables us to do our work to get the trail built."

The contribution was made possible by a grant that the Wilton Family Y received from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Center to Combat Childhood Obesity, which supports local projects that promote physical activity and healthy eating. Over the past three years, the Alliance has funded many initiatives in town, including signs for the existing parts of the Norwalk River Valley Trail in Wilton.

"We appreciate the flexibility of the Y's gift," Sesto added in the statement.

The Norwalk River Valley Trail is proposed as a 38-mile, multi-purpose trail, linking Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk to Rogers Park in Danbury. For more information, visit the Norwalk River Valley Trail website.
