To the editor:
Thanksgiving will soon be upon us. Its meaning should not be lost under the barrage of holiday music and advertisements that seem to come at us from every direction.
As the dust settles over the 2014 election, I have much to be thankful for. Running for office is hard work, but it would be an impossible undertaking without the generous efforts by talented and dedicated volunteers to back you up.
It is difficult to properly convey the depth of appreciation, gratitude and love I feel for these wonderful volunteers, RTC members, friends, business colleagues and, an understanding and supportive family whose enormous contributions helped to produce such a successful outcome to my campaign.
There are many difficult, time sensitive tasks in a campaign. The campaign treasurer must meet filing deadlines or face penalties. Fundraising goals must be met though generous donors who believe you are worth investing in. Your message must reach the voters with the help of a communication director.
This year, Tom Derderian stepped up to become the master of print and TV media. My IT volunteer made sure that our lists were robust and campaign web sites and social media coverage professionally managed.
Door to door campaigning was made more enjoyable by many volunteer drivers that risked life and limb taking me up steep driveways and busy highways.
The media also worked hard to cover our race under increasing pressures to due to fewer financial resources and staff.
This entire enterprise would be a daunting undertaking by any measure if it were not for these incredible volunteers who care so deeply about making our state better.
To them, I say thank you. To the voters, thank you for placing your trust in me, a trust that I know must be continually earned. On this Thanksgiving, I feel truly blessed.
