Wilton Library Screens 'Sound and Fury,' Documentary On Cochlear Implants

WILTON, Conn. -- As part of its New Perspectives Film Series, the Wilton Library is presenting a screening of "Sound and Fury," an Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary Feature.

The film chronicles one family's struggle over whether or not to provide two deaf children with cochlear implants, devices that can stimulate hearing.

Viewers are introduced to one of the most controversial issues affecting the deaf community. Cochlear implants may provide easier access to the hearing world, but what do the devices mean for a person's sense of identity with deaf culture?

The movie starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Brubeck Room. Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested. Refreshments will be served.

The New Perspectives Film Series is programmed and moderated by filmmaker Megan Smith-Harris.
