Wilton Neighbors Notes

WILTON, Conn. – Wilton’s own Dan and Chris Brubeck will perform with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet at Weir Farm’s 16th annual outdoor concert, “Jazz in the Garden,” on Sunday, Sept. 25 from 3-5 p.m. The quartet includes Chuck Lamb on keyboard and Mike DeMicco on guitar.

Chris and Dan Brubeck are internationally acclaimed musicians.  Chris is a composer, orchestral arranger, lyricist and performer. His most recent concerto, “Travels in Time for Three,” will be performed by the Boston Pops at Carnegie Hall in March. In addition to his instrumental work with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, Chris tours, records and sings with his acoustic funk-blues group Triple Play. He will perform on bass and trombone with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet.

Dan Brubeck, the group’s drummer, is an internationally acclaimed percussionist famous for his original drumming style. He has appeared on “Today,” “The Tonight Show” and The Grammy Awards. In addition to leading his own group, The Dolphins, he is a featured soloist with many of the world’s most famous jazz artists.

Everyone is invited to bring a picnic to the concert, which will be held rain or shine.  According to Janice Hess, executive director of Weir Farm Art Center, the concert, which is supported by the Wilton Bank, is a fundraiser for Weir Farm’s Artist-in-Residence program. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students 13-18, and free for children under 12.  They are available in advance at the Wilton Bank, Open House and Gava, and on the day of the event at Branchville School or at the entrance to Weir Farm. All parking for the concert will be at the Branchville Elementary school at 40 Florida Road, across from Ancona’s Market in Ridgefield. Free shuttles will operate between the school and Weir Farm continuously between 2 and 6 p.m.  For more information, call Weir Farm at (203) 761-9945. A great way to enjoy the outdoors on Saturday, Sept. 24, is to join an organized bike ride in support of the proposed Norwalk River Valley Trail. Participants will meet at Middlebrook School and may choose from four different bike rides or a two-mile family hike on a trail to Wilton Center. Registration is $10 and includes a picnic and trail ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. The Norwalk River Valley Trail is a proposed 27-mile biking and hiking trail between Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk and south Danbury. The event is organized by Wilton Go Green and is part of Moving Planet, a global event where people from 180 countries around the world will bike, hike and skateboard in support of green transportation. Wilton Go Green is a non-profit group of citizens with a mission to engage the community in initiatives that advance a culture of conservation.
