"This is a great initial response to raise funds to professionally restore, pack and relocate Gifford Proctor’s Valley Forge Washington sculpture to a permanent location in the Clune Center Auditorium lobby," said First Selectman Bill Brennan in a press release.
"We have now received funds that represent 80 percent of our goal, and we are continuing to campaign for additional contributions to close the remaining funding gap. I am very confident that we will reach our objective, as the generous and supportive citizens of Wilton recognize that this project represents a unique opportunity to save a historic piece of sculpture that was skillfully crafted in Wilton over a period of 30 years by a nationally recognized sculptor and local citizen."
All contributions are welcome, but leadership contributors of $500 or more will be recognized on a permanent bronze plaque to be located at the display site, according to a press release.
Tax-deductible contributions should be made payable to the town of Wilton and sent to the attention of J. Rochester, Wilton Town Hall, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.
