WILTON, CONN. -- The Wilton Family Y is offering several new enrichment programs for young adults this fall.
The class is taught by the Chess Club of Fairfield County, which will provide professional teachers and elite chess players to deliver the curriculum, which was created by Scholastic Director Daniel Lowinger. The class is designed to build logical and critical thinking, develop patience and concentration and connect students with the evolution of chess strategy.
A beginner level for ages 8-10 is scheduled for 4:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, and an intermediate level for ages 10-13 will be from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Tuesdays. Cost is $170 for Y members and $270 for program members.
A series of classes includes "Cartooning" for ages 7-11 from 4:30-5:30 p.m., Thursdays. The class explores a variety of cartoon art following the style of classic animation characters. "Drawing People" for ages 9-11 will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Thursdays. This class focuses on creating realistic portraits of human figures. "Water Coloring" for ages 8-11 wlll be from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Fridays; it teaches techniques for still life and landscape led by a professional artist. All art class fees are $165 for Y members and $265 for program members.
Berlitz Learning Center Language Classes
These will be offered in beginning German, Mandarin and Italian for ages 14-18 from Sept. 2 through Dec. 20. Instructors focus on basic vocabulary and conversational techniques as well as cultural aspects of the country. German class meets from 4:30-5:30 p.m., Mondays; Mandarin meets from 4:30-5:30 p.m., Wednesdays; and Italian from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Wednesdays. Cost for the 15-week session of each language class is $325 for Y members and $450 for program members.
