To the editor,

There simply aren’t enough words to express our gratitude to all who helped make the Wilton Family YMCA’s Farm-to-Table event a success on Sunday, May 22. Over 150 people gathered at Millstone Farm to raise funds to benefit the Y’s financial assistance program, which enables young people achieve their potential, empower people of all ages to lead healthier lives and strengthen the bonds of our community.

The Y was proud to honor Karen Birck and Bruce Hampson as the 2016 Distinguished Citizen Awardees at the event. The Wilton Family YMCA is proud to call Wilton home because of people such as the Karen and Bruce – they make Wilton a better place.

A special thanks to the event sponsor, Fairfield County Bank. We also would like to thank Steve and Heather Simmons with special thanks to Mythic Wine. Also, the Village Market, Gregory and Adams, Ancona’s, The Greens at Cannondale, Caraluzzi’s, Janet and Michael Crystal, Good Morning Wilton, Realty Seven, and the Wilton Library for their continuous support of our cause. We also thank local award-winning chef Tim LaBant of The Schoolhouse at Cannondale who provided a most delicious dinner and their event coordinator, Rebecca Thorpe.

Jen DeWitt and String Serenade provided beautiful classical music that added to the feel of the afternoon. Thank you to Betsy and Jess Fink at Millstone Farm for hosting the event. Alex Sywak, a 14 year-old volunteer for the Wilton Family YMCA’s special needs programs who has logged over 1,000 volunteer hours, spoke to the crowd about his experience at the YMCA. Sywak reminded us that inclusion is good for everyone – kids with and without disabilities.

A big thanks to all the volunteers. The Farm to Table committee is made of the following volunteers: Carol Dubrowski, Carol Johnson, Debbie Lafond, Deborah Miller, Melissa Norris, Terri Sheridan and Todd Stevens went above and beyond the call of duty as volunteers.

Thanks to volunteer Auctioneer and Y Board Member Sean Carroll.

We wish everyone a healthy and safe summer and we can’t wait to see you at the farm next spring!
