1,000 Customers Lose Power In Wilton As Sandy Closes In

Updated at 2:40 p.m. WILTON, Conn. – More than 1,000 Connecticut Light & Power customers in Wilton were without power as winds from Hurricane Sandy continued to slam through Fairfield County on Monday afternoon.

According to CL&P, 1,028 of the town’s customers were in the dark as of 2:40 p.m. Monday.  That represents 14 percent of the utility's Wilton customers. Utility and state officials were expecting widespread outages as the hurricane makes its way north.

Wilton’s emergency management office was fully staffed as of Monday morning. The town has set up an emergency shelter at Miller Driscoll School for residents who need to evacuate their homes.
