Accident Cleared: I-95 Southbound Reopens In Norwalk

UPDATE: NORWALK, Conn. -- The accident scene has been cleared from I-95 southbound in Norwalk, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The highway reopened before 2 p.m. after cleanup work was completed, DOT said. 

The right lane was still closed, but the other lanes have reopened. 

Delays remained in the area, but traffic was beginning to clear. 

original story: NORWALK, Conn. -- An accident involving a car, a box truck and a tractor-trailer has closed I-95 southbound in Norwalk late Tuesday morning, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. 

I-95 southbound closed between Exit 15 for Route 7 and Exit 14 for Route 7 because of the accident, DOT said. 

The accident was reported at about 11 a.m., DOT said. 

It was not clear how long it would take to clear the scene and reopen the highway. 

Traffic jams were reported in the area, and motorist are warned to expect delays. Backups are occurring for more than 5 miles on I-95. 

Road crews have reportedly been called in to sand the highway as part of the cleanup.
