Bond Set At $2M For Dad in Bridgeport Murder Case That Led To Amber Alert

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man charged with fatally stabbing his girlfriend and kidnapping his daughter in a case that led to a multi-state chase in February appeared in court Monday, where his bond was set at $2 million, according to the Connecticut Post.

Oscar Hernandez, 39, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and kidnapping after police said he stabbed his girlfriend and a friend at her Greenwood Road home on Friday, Feb. 24. He is accused of then taking his 6-year-old daughter and leading police on a multi-state search that ended when he crashed his car in Pennsylvania, where he is also facing charges.

Hernandez was extradited back to Connecticut from Pennsylvania, and on Monday appeared in court for the first time to face his Connecticut charges, the Connecticut Post reported. In addition to having his bond set at $2 million, he was also ordered to have no contact with his daughter or the other stabbing victim, according to the Connecticut Post.

Shortly after his apprehension in February, it was revealed that Hernandez, a native of El Salvador, had been deported back to El Salvador in 2013 after being convicted of assaulting a former girlfriend in Stamford, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. It is unclear how or when he returned to the country following his deportation.

Hernandez will next appear in court on May 2, according to the Connecticut Post.
