On Tuesday night, Bridgeport sent four manned snow plows to the coastal city in eastern Connecticut to help New London dig out. The National Guard is also dispatching manpower and equipment to New London and other communities in the eastern part of the state.
In Bridgeport, where only about a half-foot of snow fell, the streets are already cleared. In New London, that task will take a lot longer.
Cavanaugh contacted current New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio, and the offer was gratefully accepted. Finizio said clearing the streets in his city is a difficult task that will take some time.
“With some snowdrifts as high as they are, it is going take a while to break through to each street,” he said. “Our DPW logistics chief believes that our best estimate for getting a path down every street is that we can accomplish that in the next 24 hours with full plowing completed in approximately 48 hours.”
The equipment and manpower will return to the Park City once New London's streets are clear and passable.
