Daily Voice's Coverage Of Chappaqua's Clintons Featured In NY Magazine

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. --  Chappaqua resident Hillary Clinton's use of a private email account for official correspondence during her tenure as secretary of state has garnered national headlines, but Daily Voice's hyperlocal coverage of the matter was the focus of a story published Friday by New York Magazine.

The "personal email address controversy marks a rare case in which the Daily Voice has delved into covering a national political scandal," reporter Jaime Fuller wrote in the story.

"If your only source of information about the 2016 presidential race were this hyperlocal news website, one of a few dozen Daily Voice offshoots in Westchester County and Connecticut whose 'target reader is 'the Main Street mom,' fuzzy feelings of neighborhood pride are the recurring theme," Fuller wrote.

Daily Voice Founder and CEO Carll Tucker said he couldn’t agree more with Fuller’s observations.

“Daily Voice is about our neighbors,” Tucker said, Saturday. “Our slogan is ‘Your Town, Your News,’ and we’re fortunate to have some very interesting neighbors to cover here in Fairfield, Westchester and Putnam counties.”

Fuller’s piece on Daily Voice described its lengthy list of more than 100 articles on the Clintons as portraying a “positive aura." If she was suggesting some sort of bias, Tucker said New York Magazine’s journalist is dead on.

“There is definitely a bias,” Tucker said. “There is a bias in favor of our towns.”

However, Tucker doesn’t mean to suggest Daily Voice only covers positive stories. Rather, according to Tucker, it is the way in which Daily Voice reporters cover both good and bad news alike that sets their sites apart from so many others.

“Our goal is to report on and celebrate the communities we serve,” said Tucker. “We like to report happy news, but when bad news occurs, we cover it with sorrow rather than gloating over it.”

Tucker went on to explain an interesting way of looking at the stories Fuller lists at the end of her article.

“These are all (stories) the editors felt would be interesting to share with neighbors in a checkout line, or in town,” Tucker said. “What our editors do is tell people what’s going on in town.”

However, when merited, larger stories aren’t left for others to report on.

“National news quite often comes to us, as was the case in the Valhalla train accident,” Tucker said. “Our team did an extraordinary job. We report it as well or better.

"That’s what makes us, we believe, the most popular news medium ever, with more than 70 percent of all adults in our towns reading our news.”

Daily Voice is a 43-site system covering community news in Fairfield, Conn., and Westchester and Putnam counties in New York.

With more than 750,000 unique monthly visitors, according to Google Analytics, Daily Voice is the highest penetration daily news site ever known. In its current market, only three sites -- Google, Facebook and YouTube -- have higher penetration.
