Don't Miss The Last Train: Metro-North To Begin Shutting Down Service

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Metro-North will begin shutting down train service Saturday afternoon as a blizzard continues to rage across southern Fairfield County.

The last trains will be leaving at about 4 p.m. on all of Metro-North, including the New Haven Line and its New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury branches in Connecticut.

Train riders should listen for station announcements and continue to check the Metro-North website for updates.

A nor-easter is impacting the entire MTA service area. Due to the deteriorating road conditions and poor visibility, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and all above ground NYC Subway service will begin an orderly shutdown of service at 4 p.m. due to deteriorating weather conditions and concerns for customer and employee safety, the MTA said on its website.

"Crews and snow fighting equipment have been dispatched and are working to keep platforms and rails clear of ice and snow," MTA said. "We advise customers if at all possible to remain at home during the duration of this storm."

Metro-North did not say when train service would resume.

Southern Fairfield County remains under a Blizzard Warning through 7 a.m. Sunday.
