Eversource says these scammers try to take advantage of their customers, particularly businesses and senior citizens, WTNH said.

Spokesman Mitch Gross said a scammer will call a house or knock on the door threatening immediate shut off for lack of payment, which is something the company would not do, WTNH said.

Here are some tips to protect yourself:

  • Never provide personal financial or Eversource account information to a caller.
  • Eversource would never ask you to purchase prepaid cards.
  • All Eversource employees carry company-issued identification.
  • Eversource representatives will always be able to provide basic information about the account, such as the name and number.
