Fireworks Set To Sizzle For The Fourth In Wilton

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The Fourth of July means fireworks. Colorful exploding displays above the mall in Danbury and at Cummings Beach in Stamford on Thursday night kicked off the long holiday weekend in Fairfield County.

Friday, July 3, Norwalk: Calf Pasture Beach is where the action is; music starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Amazing Andy Show (magic, juggling, comedy, audience participation) followed by DJ Nuzzo and Jimmy & The Parrots, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band. Friday, July 3, Darien: Watch the sky light up over Darien High School; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks Fun: (203) 803-7003. Rain date is Sunday, July 5.

Friday, July 3, Fairfield: Fireworks explode around 9:15 p.m. from a barge off of Long Island Sound meaning the best viewing is either at Penfield or Jennings Beaches. Fireworks Fun: (203) 256-3144, www.fairfieldct.org/fireworks/. Rain date: July 4.

Friday, July 3, Westport: Get ready to "ooh" and "aah" at Compo Beach where year after year residents gather to celebrate America's birthday. Fireworks Fun: www.westportpal.org/. Rain date is July 6.

Friday, July 3, Greenwich: Relax at Binney Park with pre-fireworks entertainment by Music by the Sound Beach Community starting at 7:30 p.m.  Fireworks begin at 9:10 p.m. A second set of fireworks is set to follow at 9:35 p.m. off Greenwich Point. Music provided by a disc jockey starts at 7 p.m. near the South Concession area at the Point. Experts advise arriving early for the shows. Fireworks Fun: www.greenwichct.org/. Rain date is July 5. 

Saturday, July 4, New Canaan: Waveny Park is the site for a spectacular light show that begins at 9 p.m. Come early, say those in the know, ideally anytime after 5 p.m., for activities that include picnicking, live music, and lots of food and drink options. Fireworks Fun: www.newcanaan.info/.

Saturday, July 4, Bridgeport: The Ballpark at Harbor Yard is where you can both watch the Bluefish light up the opposition; then enjoy a light show post game.Fireworks Fun: www.bridgeportbluefish.com/.

Saturday, July 4, Ridgefield: Ridgefield High School is where picnicking starts at 6 p.m. with the pyrotechnics beginning shortly after dusk. Fireworks Fun: www.ridgefieldct.org/. Rain date is July 5. 

Saturday, July 4, Rowayton: Rowayton fireworks will pop, rock and delight starting at 9:15 p.m. offshore from Bayley Beach. Fireworks Fun:www.rowaytonct.com/.

Saturday, July 4, Weston: Weston Parks & Recreation, along with Fairfield County Bank present a day of fun and fireworks at Weston Middle School. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and include a barbecue with food by Calise's Food Market starting at 6 p.m., the Westport Community Band at 6:15 p.m., The Magic Genie at 7:15 p.m. followed by a tribute to the Beatles with fireworks at 9:20 p.m. Fireworks Fun: www.westonct.gov.

Saturday, July 4, Wilton: Wilton kicks off its celebration on the high school's athletic field with a 5K at 8:30 a.m. and a softball game at noon pitting the town Democrats vs. the Republicans. The music begins at 5 p.m., with featured act Retro Express taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. At 9:30 p.m. the highlight of the day will be the fireworks display. Call 203-454-5188 for weather updates. The rain date is Sunday.
