Rell, 69, recently notified Brookfield party members that she can no longer serve as a justice of the peace because of her change of residency to Florida, where she owns a second home in New Smyrna Beach, The Connecticut Post reported.

Widowed in 2014, Rell is still listed as an active voter on Brookfield’s election rolls, the Connecticut Post said.

The Post quoted Rell as citing a combination of reasons, including the direction of Connecticut, which she said is in a "downward spiral."
