The work on the trail will start at the Merwin Meadows end, and only a segment of trail will be closed during construction, Brennan said. It's expected that the crew will install about 200 feet of pipeline per day.

A second GPL crew will continue with the installation of pipe on River Road in the residential zone working south toward Horseshoe Road, he said. It's also anticipated that this crew will install 200 feet of pipe a day.

A crew from Henkels & McCoy will continue with the installation of pipeline on Wolfpit Road, or Route 106.

During this week, two or more construction crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Yankee Gas will maintain access to residences and businesses, as well as ensure passage of emergency vehicle traffic through the construction areas.

The construction, which began in July, is expected to be completed by the end of November.

"With everyone’s patience and some alternate route planning, I am confident that we will all survive the four-month construction period for the gas line expansion project," Brennan said.

The gas pipeline is expected to offer the town an energy alternative that will save $450,000 to $500,000 per year on fuel costs, he said.

"The availability of natural gas will also offer potential savings to many community businesses, residences and other facilities adjacent to the pipeline route," Brennan said.
