Officers from the Greenwich Police Department, the Stamford Police Department, Greenwich Fire Department, and the Greenwich Emergency Medical Services all assisted Metro-North Police in the investigation into a suspicious package found on the platform at the train station in central Greenwich.
"The area was shut down while the Stamford bomb squad conducted its investigation," said police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray.
The entire operation took approximately one hour, Gray said.
"At its conclusion, the item was determined to be non-hazardous and more than likely an item abandoned or forgotten by a local traveler," he said.
Metro-North said via Twitter that trains were running on the New Haven Line but delayed during the incident.
Pedestrians, cars and train riders were barred from the Greenwich train station during the investigation. The incident began just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
