#HereToStay, Say Fairfield County's Undocumented Youth As They Head To DC

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Stamford resident -- and undocumented immigrant -- Tashi Sanchez-Llaury, a Southern Connecticut State University student, said she's headed to the Women's March on Washington on Saturday, Jan. 21. It's not just about herself — she wants to make a statement for all the "mothers, sisters, and  strong immigrant and undocumented women we come from, the women of color who have fought for us."

"We march because we believe that this new presidency will bring fear into the hearts of these powerful women and we want them to know that we are not giving up and we will be fighting alongside them," she said.

She is among nine other leaders from Connecticut Students for a Dream who will unite with thousands of others the day after President Trump's inauguration.

CT Students for a Dream members include those from Stamford, Danbury, Hartford, UConn Storrs, Norwalk, and New Haven.

"The day after Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States, a man who has insulted, demonized, and threatened people of color, immigrants, women, Muslims, and survivors of sexual assault, we will join women around the country to send a bold message," reads their rallying cry.

"We are reminding America that immigrants and refugees are #HereToStay, that we will organize to prevent deportations and protect people in our communities."

Danbury's Angelica Idrovo added that she is marching because powerful resistance and the heritage of fearless women "that will always defeat hate, racism, and bigotry" runs deep in her veins.

"It is my duty to march as an undocumented woman of color, to not let others feel comfortable when my community and I feel uncomfortable. Who I am is only defined by me.”
