STAMFORD, Conn. — Several small-business owners in Stamford learned that they have more in common with Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Linda McMahon than they might have expected when the former chief executive officer of World Wrestling Entertainment shared a few of the hardships she went through before finding success.

Before building the wrestling company from a small business with a few employees into an international organization, McMahon and her husband, Vince, had owned three businesses, all of which went south, she said. In addition to having to file for bankruptcy, their home was auctioned off and their car was repossessed, she said.

“We felt down, we felt embarrassed, but never defeated,” McMahon said during her talk Monday at the Third Street Stamford Chapter of Business Networking International’s meeting at Atria Senior Living facility.

The Greenwich resident also told the group how she became pregnant with her son, Shane, right before her college graduation, and how Vince had to work in a rock quarry about 90 hours a week. To do her part, she went to work as a secretary at a law firm six weeks after Shane was born, she said.

McMahon is vying for the Republican nomination for one of the state’s seats in the U.S. Senate against former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays. The winner of the nomination will most likely run against U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, D-5th District, to replace Independent Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who will be stepping down.

The Republican Party will be nominating its candidates for November’s election at the 2012 Republican State Convention on Friday, May 18.

I am an American expat in China, recently graduated from a grad program at a top tier US university. The business school at this university is planning to expand their MBA program to China by cooperating with major corporations with offices within a certain city. I was recommended to coordinate the visit. My task would be to organize meetings with twelve businesses over three days. I have to contact the businesses on my own and arrange the meetings--this legwork will be the majority of the work involved. When they arrive my task is to accompany them, act as translator when needed, and arrange for meals and transport. I need advice on how much to ask as a fee. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Company development takes technique and powerful authority Melange Yarn Exporter. Some new entrepreneurs accomplish a certain level of achievements, sit back and fall short to do what is necessary to develop their business.

Being able to spend freely can be an advantage for a candidate who can claim the money came from a lot of working class supporters, but it can cost votes when the public believes the candidate and a few wealthy supporters are trying to buy an election. It didn't work for her last time and there is no reason to think it will work this time. She would win more votes if she spent more doing good for people. If she was better known for her good works, it would be a lot easier to get people to vote for her.

She is what we don't need. Can you just imagine Connecticut citizens being represented by a wrestling moguless? Ah - my Senator, the Wrestling magnate. NOT!!

lwitherspoon:

I agree - last time around, she spent $50 million of her own money in an attempt to buy the election and she still lost big, despite major victories for her party nationwide. Her entire campaign was an insincere, poll-tested, cliche - the usual pablum about how she is a job creator who will change Washington. I might vote for another candidate from her party, but I would not vote for her.
