Man Charged With Identity Theft in Wilton

WILTON, Conn. – A 32-year-old Bridgeport man has been charged with four counts of identity theft by the Wilton Police.

Marque Harris was taken into custody by Wilton police on Friday, May 18, at his job in Shelton. The investigation began last October when a Wilton resident reported fraudulent transactions in her checking account.

Police say Harris was using a money-lending scheme where he told people he would pay their bills if he was given cash to do so. However, according to Wilton Police Capt. John Lynch, Harris would use other people’s accounts to pay the bills and pocket the cash.

The exact number of victims is  not known, and police haven’t determined the total amount taken. Detectives are still investigating.

Harris posted a $25,000 bond and is due in court on May 29.
