Breaking News: ID Released For Man Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train

Metro-North Harlem Line Running, New Haven Line Down

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. ? There was to be limited service on the Long Island Rail Road and the Metro-North Harlem Line between North White Plains and Grand Central Terminal as of 2 p.m. Wednesday. But the MTA was still working to restore power and clear debris for the New Haven Line.

All Metro-North customers should hold onto their October monthly and weekly tickets, which will be valid through Monday, Nov. 5.

Thousands of workers were out across the 5,000-square-mile MTA service region Wednesday inspecting and repairing the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. Rail workers spent the better part of Tuesday removing downed power lines and trees along the tracks, as well as mud and other debris that washed up, including boats that washed ashore.

"It is still too early to say how long it will take to restore the system to full service," the MTA said in a statement. "It must be noted, however, that this process could have taken much longer had we not taken the pre-emptive measure of suspending all service to safeguard our equipment and prepare facilities to the best of our ability."

All bridges operated by the MTA are open to traffic. However, the Hugh L. Carey and Queens Midtown Tunnels remained closed after extensive flooding.
