NORWALK, Conn. – Shoppers flocked to the Home Depot on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk on Saturday to find materials to prepare for Hurricane Sandy, but were met with shortages of key products.

A store employee said there were no big batteries, generators, flashlights, lanterns and bags of sand, although a shipment of generators was delivered late Saturday morning.

"I’m looking for D batteries and can’t find them anywhere,” said Debbie Wayda of Norwalk. “I waited until the last minute. It’s my fault.”

Leslie Evans of Stamford also was looking for big batteries. “I wanted 6 volt and D batteries and can’t get them, so this is an alternative,” she said as she opted for LED lights.

“I’m well prepared so I picked up some water and a pump,” said Chris McMahon of Wilton. “I’ve been without power for two weeks during Hurricane Irene and the snow storm so I’m ready for whatever comes.”
