Philip Verdi, Retired MasterCard Exec

Philip Verdi of Wilton, a retired credit card executive and former member of the Wilton Inland Wetlands Committee, died on Oct. 21 at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice in Stamford. He was 70.

Most of Verdi's career was spent in the credit card business and he was at the forefront when MasterCard and Visa were first issued. He was president of Eastern States, a company formed by the banks to handle all of their credit card business. In 1988, Verdi joined MasterCard International as executive director of information systems. He moved to Wilton when the company relocated its corporate headquarters to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He remained with MasterCard for 10 years before joining AXA Financial in 1998. He retired in 2004.

After retiring, he became a member of Wilton's Inland Wetlands Committee and of the Board of United Way.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; a son, Paul; two daughters Lauren and Morgan; two sisters, Susan Peacock and Angela Siracusa, and four grandchildren.
