Police Investigate Thefts From Cars

Wilton police are investigating the thefts of items from unlocked vehicles at two houses during the evening or overnight hours of Oct. 19.

Three vehicles at a home on Chicken Street were entered between 8 and 11 p.m. Oct. 19. In one vehicle, a purse containing $20 cash was taken; the purse was found in another vehicle without the cash. Nothing was taken from the other two vehicles, but there were signs of ransacking.

During the same night, a vehicle on Branch Brook Road was entered and a black Coach purse was taken. The purse is valued at $200 and contained a driver's license, a debit card and $70 in cash. This theft was reported at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20. The vehicle had been parked there since the previous night.

Police believe the cases are related because of the proximity of the two homes and the time frame. Charges for such a crime could include sixth-degree larceny and burglary.

Also from the police blotter:

? The owner of a home on Branch Brook Road returned from work Oct. 20 to find $400 worth of wine and liquor stolen. Police suspect thieves entered through the garage door, which was unlocked, because there was no sign of forced entry.

Police have not ruled out a relationship of this break-in to the thefts from cars. But Lt. Don Wakeman said that burglars typically do not enter residences after vehicles in a short period of time. He also speculated that it may have been individuals under the age of 21 because it is unusual to see only alcohol missing.
