The agency's weekly survey of prices in Connecticut found self-serve, regular gas averaged $2.47 a gallon, 32 cents higher than this time last year. Nationally, gas prices are averaging $2.35, 36 cents higher than this time last year.

Retail oil prices are on the uptick because markets are reacting by the recent agreement between OPEC and non-OPEC countries to cut crude oil production by 1.8 million barrels daily in an attempt to rebalance the global market supply. In 2017, retail prices are expected to climb and will most probably increase up to summer, when seasonal refinery maintenance gets underway in the spring.

The average price in the Greater Bridgeport/Stamford region stood at $2.53, the highest in the state.

South Carolina and Arizona register the lowest average prices at $2.11 and 2.13, respectively. Hawaii continues to lead the pack with highest prices in the nation at $3.02, followed by California at $2.76. Connecticut continues to be the state with the 11th highest prices in the nation.
