WILTON, Conn. – Wilton is officially in a state of emergency as Hurricane Sandy continues to wreak havoc in town.
First Selectman Bill Brennan made the declaration at 7:05 p.m. Monday due to the overwhelming effects of the storm, according to the Wilton Emergency Operations Center.
Trees and power lines have fallen throughout town due to high winds and rain from the storm, which is now considered a nor’easter. According to Connecticut Light and Power, 5,864 customers in Wilton are without power as of 8:50 p.m. Monday. That accounts for 80 percent of the town’s customers.
Wilton officials have told residents to stay indoors as the storm continues.
