Clouds will increase Tuesday morning with a high near 31 degrees. Snow becomes more likely after 5 p.m. Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The advisory calls for snow and freezing rain across southern Connecticut and the Hudson River Valley. The chance of snow increases from 50 percent in the afternoon to 100 percent by evening.

A total of 2 to 4 inches of snow is possible, along with a tenth of an inch of ice.

The snow will develop by afternoon, then mix with sleet and freezing rain into the evening, with more snow possible as well as freezing rain overnight and into the morning.

The snow- and ice-covered surfaces will make travel slippery and dangerous from Tuesday afternoon rush hour into the evening and for the Wednesday morning commute, too.

More rain is possible Wednesday, with a high of about 41 degrees.

Snow could return Thursday before sunny skies return Friday.
