Wilton residents have had more than their share of bear troubles lately. First it was the black bear who hit a car on Belden Hill Road, then scampered into the woods. Now comes news that a Wilton man was bitten by a bear in Tennessee.
The Hartford Courant reported that Sean M. Konover of Wilton was bitten by a black bear while hiking through Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The report was published just a day after there were four black bear sightings in Wilton .
Konover was trying to photograph the bear on May 12 when the animal attacked and bit him on the left foot, the paper said. Park rangers charged Konover with willfully approaching the bear in a way that caused the animal to be disturbed or displaced, the Courant reported last week.
Konover told the paper he didnt think he did anything wrong and has consulted with a lawyer. He declined to speak to The Daily Wilton, saying in a Facebook message, I've been told it's in my best interest not to discuss the issue, so I can't make any comments at this time.
