A Tomato Grows in Tarrytown

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- A single, solitary tomato has ripened recently in Tarrytown.

While this may not be particularly unusual, the place where the tomato has chosen to grow is: Warner Library.

Patrons may have noticed the solitary ripened tomato this week nestled among vines and three smaller, green tomatos on a ledge high above the library's front entrance.

There's no definitive answer for why the tomato decided to grow in that spot, which is out of reach of even the tallest booklover.

"We can only imagine that birds brought a seed there," Warner Library Director Maureen Petry said.

Petry said the library has no plans for "our locally grown organic tomato."

The weekend's predicted winter weather may render any plans useless.
