A three-judge panel ruled Dec. 12 that Wilton resident Aaron Ramsey was not guilty by reason of mental illness in the death of his father, Edward, 73, in May. Ramsey had been charged with first-degree murder in his father’s death. Aaron Ramsey pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

In the panel’s ruling, Judge Richard Comerford said Aaron Ramsey lacked the ability to discern right from wrong and was unable to control his actions because of his mental state.

“At the time of the killing of his father, he (Ramsey) had marked delusional thinking and command hallucinations. At said time, the defendant was in an acute psychotic condition,” Comerford said.

Ramsey’s trial was in court for less than a month. Police said Aaron Ramsey told officers that he was hearing voices, had to find out who “the fakers and manipulators are” and that he was “tasked to put people on trial.”

Aaron Ramsey told police he struck his father and used his fists, a bench and a “perfect sharp knife” he retrieved from the kitchen to attack his father. The “voices” told him that his father “has magic powers and can heal himself” and fled the home when the voices said, “They’re coming for you. You gotta run.” When asked who was after him, Aaron Ramsey said “aliens,” police said.
