Plummer has been cast to replace embattled actor Kevin Spacey in the already completed movie "All the Money in the World," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Plummer will now play the role of J. Paul Getty in the movie about the infamous 1973 kidnapping of the billionaire's grandson, 16-year-old John Paul Getty III.

Spacey, who is facing mounting allegations of sexual harassment, will be erased from the film as Plummer goes to work immediately reshooting the scenes with director Ridley Scott, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Despite the last-minute recasting, Scott reportedly plans to keep the Dec. 22 release date for the movie, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The beloved 87-year-old actor is still best known for his role as Capt. Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music," a movie he reportedly dislikes. Plummer is the oldest actor to ever win an Academy Award, picking up the statue in 2012 at age 82 for Best Supporting Actor for "Beginners."

Spacey's scenes were reportedly shot in eight days, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The reshoots may also include the use of visual effects such as digital compositing to replace Spacey with Plummer, the Hollywood Reporter said.

In an unusual twist, Plummer was reportedly the first choice for the role, but studio executives had wanted a bigger name and Spacey was cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Several people have come forward with complaints about Spacey since allegations came to light two weeks ago of his inappropriate sexual advances. Work has also been suspended on the next season of "House of Cards," which stars Spacey.
