Products from Bear Naked , the granola company, and SoBe , the soft drink company, were stocked on Village Market's shelves long before they became household names. Both companies began their rise to success in nearby towns Bear Naked in Norwalk and SoBe in Rye, N.Y.
"We always like to support local entrepreneurs to help them get a start," said Nancy Dolnier, Village Market general manager. Many products made locally are sold at Village Market. You just never know which will make it big, Dolnier said.
Michelina's European Pastry Shop is one business that sells its products at Village Market as well as at its own bakery down the road. Baguettes, croissants and rustics with Michelina's labels can be purchased at Village Market.
"We approached Village Market about two years ago to sell our products there," said Nuno Cordeiro, bakery owner. "We were both testing it out not knowing how it would go because we also have a retail store. If anything, over the two years, they have been selling more, and we have been selling more. It has been working out for both of us."
Cordeiro said that on an average Saturday, Michelina's store sells 24 of its baguettes, while Village Market sells 100. "Village Market gets the product out," said Cordeiro, who hopes to sell Michelina's baked goods to other markets soon.
Other locally made products stocked on Village Market's shelves that could sweep the country include Vintage Salsa , Pearl's Dressings, Ola Granola , Kerry Wood Healthy Foods , Mamacats Tea, Izzi B's Cupcakes allergen free products, and Millstone Farm's products, delivered every Tuesday.
