"I lost it when I saw it all shut up in the middle of the afternoon and workers tearing the place apart," said the longtime Wiltonite. "It was devastating."
But Starbucks is back. And on Friday, so we were Weisman and her daughters, 16-year-old Charlotte Arbogast and 12-year-old Natalie Arbogast.
The popular coffee shop at 21 River Road, one of Wilton Center's main hubs, reopened Thursday after a 10-day renovation.
"It was a big relief (last week) to notice the sign that said it was only closed for upgrades," Weisman said Friday, looking at coffee pots and mugs. "This is a great gathering place, and we rely on it."
"I like the new look, there's more space to move around," she said. "But there are fewer tables and chairs. They need to put some of them back."
Chloe Rosen, 20, a Wilton resident and daily customer, was also back on Friday. She agreed to having mixed feelings about the new look.
"It's more decorative and comfortable with softer colors and paintings and more room," said Rosen. "But I think the tables are too small, and they need more chairs. It's still a cozy place to have a cup of coffee, but I hope they put in more furniture. They took too much out."
Not so, said 47-year-old Alex De Toulouse-Lautrec, a daily customer who grew up in France. "I love the new look, it's more airy and has that European, art-deco style," said De Toulouse-Lautrec. "I have loved coming here to drink coffee ... and now I love it even more."
