The crew is working from Catalpa Road and heading north.

A second crew from GPL Construction will continue to install pipe on Horseshoe Road and work south toward Wolfpit Road.

A third crew from Henkels and McCoy will continue with the installation of pipe on Wolfpit Road, focusing on the Norwalk River bridge crossing.

Motorists and residents will see two or more construction crews working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays on the project. Work began in late July on the project.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of November on the 3.5-mile section of the new natural gas line for Yankee Gas.

The gas pipeline is expected to offer the town an energy alternative that will save $450,000 to $500,000 per year on fuel costs, according to First Selectman William Brennan. The natural gas will also offer potential savings to many community businesses, residences and other facilities along the pipeline route, he said.

Wilton is the first community in the state to partner with Yankee Gas through Connecticut’s Comprehensive Energy Strategy, which was approved by state regulators last year. The strategy calls for expanding the state’s natural gas distribution system to provide more residents and businesses with the opportunity to switch to natural gas.

One of the first businesses to sign on for Yankee is the Wilton Family Y. Read about it here on the Daily Voice.
