Burton Terrence Emro, 88, Of Wilton, World War II Veteran

WILTON, Conn. - Burton Terrence Emro of Wilton died Tuesday, July 22. He was 88.

Emro was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Norwalk, the son of Burton E. Emro and Jane Fitzgerald. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1943 and Bridgeport Engineering Institute in 1961. After serving in the Army Air Force in World War II, he lived in East Norwalk, where he raised his family with his first wife Connie. He later married Patricia and the family moved to Wilton, where he lived for the past 45 years.

He built a career in the telecommunications industry, working for Southern New England Telephone, AT&T and Northern Telecom before retiring in 1994. After retirement, he volunteered assisting seniors at Wilton Meadows and delivering Meals on Wheels.

He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in East Norwalk and later of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Wilton, as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Emro is survived by his children, Nancy, Peggy, Kevin, Maureen Slawson, John and Sharon McMillan; sister, Jane Emro; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Connie, and second wife, Pat; brothers, Jack and Bob Emro; and grandson, Sean Emdy.

Calling hours are Sunday, July 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28 at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk, with military honors.
