David Henry O'Neill, 88, Longtime Wilton Resident

WILTON,  Conn. -- David Henry "Hank" O'Neill Jr., 88, died after a brief illness on Thursday, July 23, at the Twin Lakes Retirement Community in Burlington, N.C. He was a longtime resident of Wilton.

O'Neill was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Sept. 25, 1926, the son of David Henry O'Neill Sr. and Emily Vaughan O'Neill. He was commissioned as an ensign in the Naval Reserve in 1947. He earned a B.S.E.E. at Duke University, an M.B.A. at the University of Connecticut, and a Ph.D. in behavioral science at California American University. 

He was employed as a manager at IBM from 1947 until he took early retirement in 1982 and co-founded Management Strategies International Inc.,  from which he retired in 1993 to care for his ailing wife until her death in 1994. 

He enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing, competitive bridge, golf, and singing in his church choir.    

He was married to Dorothy Ann Callow O'Neill for 47 years.  He is survived by a brother, Larry Vaughan O'Neill (Elizabeth) of Fayette, Tenn.; a sister, Emily Ann O'Neill Kennedy of Chapel Hill, N.C.; sons, David Henry O'Neill III (Casey) of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, and Thomas Lewis O'Neill (Lili Fuller) of Milford; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, He will be missed by his family, friends, and  special friend Catherine Holland of Chapel Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, in North Carolina. Interment will be at a later date next to his wife Dorothy in Wilton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Meso Foundation or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in memory of his wife Dorothy, or to another charity of choice.
