John Fernly Woodworth, 93, Comptroller, Angelique And Co. In Wilton

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - John Fernly Woodworth of Fairfield died Monday, Nov. 10. He was 93.

Woodworth was born Dec. 14, 1920, in Peckville, Pa., to Fernly and Mary Lavelle Woodworth and was a graduate of Blakely High School. In 1940, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the 5th Army Air Corps as staff sergeant during World War II, until his discharge in August 1945. He was a graduate of the Junior College of Connecticut.

After college, he was employed as comptroller of Angelique and Co., Wilton and in 1963, he became treasurer of the Locke Manufacturing in Bridgeport. He was a member of the National Association of Accountants and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Board of Directors, Bear Rock Lodge, YMCA, St. Ann's Church Finance Committee, Quarter Master of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and branch treasurer of the William Penn Insurance Association. Upon his retirement from business, he served at the Fairfield Senior Center as vice president and was on the Board of Directors, vice president of AARP 2130 Local Chapter, and was the official insurance counselor to many seniors at the center and the senior community.

Woodworth is survived by his wife, Valerie Kocsis of Fairfield; sons, Paul (Rosette) of Portland, Ore., Peter (Kathleen) of Fairfield and Albert of Los Angeles, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Earl Woodworth, Frank Woodworth, Paul Woodworth, and Gerald Woodworth; and sisters, Mary Wescott, Lucille Kowalchick, and Lois Woodworth.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11:30 a.m. directly at St. Ann's Church, 481 Brewster St., Bridgeport. Burial will follow with full military honors at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
