DANBURY, Conn. - Richard Ives Mansfield of Danbury died Wednesday, Aug. 21. He was 86.
Mansfield was born July 14, 1927, in Danbury, son of Dorothy (Ives) Mansfield and Myron Mansfield, and was a lifelong resident of Danbury. He graduated from Danbury High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He graduated from Danbury State Teachers College (Western Connecticut State University) in 1950, and later received a Master's Degree in education from the University of Connecticut. He taught elementary school in Wilton and retired in 1985 after 35 years. He worked at the Danbury Public Library for several years after retiring.
Mansfield is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Quimby) Mansfield; daughters, Jennifer Louise Mansfield of West Hartford and Susan (Mansfield) Laurino (James) of Burlington; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Janet (Mansfield) McDonough; and brothers, Myron Hawley Mansfield and Ezra Taylor Mansfield.
Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home in Danbury. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
