Robert Swisher Iliff, 88, Worked For Wilson’s Hardware In Wilton

NORWALK, Conn. - Robert Swisher Iliff of Norwalk died Sunday, Oct. 19. He was 88.

Iliff was born  July 7, 1926, in Hatboro, Pa., to Charles H. Iliff and Carrie Swisher Iliff. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was also a past master of Old Well Lodge 108. He and his brother operated the Wilton Food Shop and later owned and operated Orem’s Diner in Wilton for 15 years. He then opened Bob’s Gun Rack in Norwalk. After selling the gun rack he worked for Wilson’s Hardware in Wilton for 20 years before “retiring” and opening Bob’s Repair Shop. In 2002, he received an honorary high school diploma from Norwalk High School.

Iliff is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughter, Valarie (Mel) Solis; son, Robert (Debbie) Iliff; six grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and 41 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Regis Wannamaker, Charles A. Iliff Jr., Miriam Wood, Ruth Applegate, Richard Iliff, and June Strolin.

Calling hours are Sunday, Oct. 26 from 2 to 4:30 in the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk. Services will be held Sunday, Oct. 26 at 4:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Donations in Iliff’s name may be made to Connecticut Hospice or Whittingham Cancer Center.
