Sister Francis Regis Carton, 93, Wilton Resident

WILTON, Conn. – Sister Francis Regis Carton, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died Tuesday, March 29, at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton. She was 93.

Mary Carton was born April 4, 1922, in New York City, to Myles and Anne Brendel Carton. 

After pronouncing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1947, Sister Francis began teaching at the Institute of Notre Dame, altimorey, Md. 

In 1954, she was assigned to Notre Dame of Maryland University. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Hunter College in New York, and a master’s degree and a doctorate in philosophy from Catholic University of America. She taught at Notre Dame for more than 40 years. From 1971-75, she was the provincial leader of what was then called the Baltimore Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

She was predeceased by her brother, Myles.

She is mourned by her relatives, friends and by her community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Friends may call Thursday from 3-7 p.m. with a Christian wake service at 6 p.m. at Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at Villa Notre Dame. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.
