WILTON, Conn. - Thomas A. Briody, a Wilton resident for over 37 years, died Friday, Oct. 24. He was 85.
Briody was born Sept. 4, 1929, in New York City, to Thomas M. and Mae Allen Briody. After graduating from Villanova University, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea. He later worked as an engineer before graduating from George Washington University Law School. He worked as a patent attorney for General Electric, IBM, and North American Philips, serving as a vice-president and chief corporate patent counsel. He later practiced law in Connecticut.
He was admitted to practice in New York, California, Illinois, Indiana, and the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals.
He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan and was a longtime member of Woodway Country Club, as well as Kiwanis and the American Legion of Wilton.
Briody is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Thomas G. Briody (Karen McGoldrick) of North Kingstown, R.I., and Scott F. Briody of Salem, N.H.; sister, Mary Mahowald (Anthony) of Belmont, Mass.; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, James and Patrick; and sister, Nancy Kobrin.
Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in St Aloysius Church, Cherry St., New Canaan, with interment in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton.
