Virginia DeBenigno, 97, Longtime Wilton Resident

Virginia DeBenigno

WILTON, Conn. – Virginia DeBenigno, a longtime Wilton resident, died Jan. 18 at Wilton Meadows Nursing Home. She was 97.

Born May 2, 1915, in Mount Kisco, N.Y., she was the daughter of Genevieve and Howard DeNike. She graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1932 and Butler Business School.

DeBenigno was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and an active member of the Rosary Society. She was married to Domenic DeBenigno, who predeceased her.

She is survived by a daughter, Sylvia (Art) Littleton, of Wilton; a son, Arthur (LaVerna) DeBenigno, of Ashville, N.C.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Virgil DeNike; and two sisters, Mari DeNike and Ethelyn Waite.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilton. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Ridgefield. Bouton Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897, or the Wilton Library Association, 137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton, CT 06897.
