To the editor:

It's getting messier here politically these days, but there is plain good news afoot for the upcoming election. Keith Rodgerson of Wilton is running for the legislature in a district that also covers a big slice of East Norwalk and Cranbury. That seat is very visibly held today by Gail Lavielle, a former spokesperson for WalMart, who effectively advocates her big corporate philosophy in the halls of the State Capitol.

Keith, by contrast has long been a small business advocate in Fairfield County and is closely aligned with the interests of average citizens. Gail, unfortunately, is more a devotee of the Koch Brothers policies and participates in their campaigns. These are meant to undo public interest laws that impede corporate control of the public domain. Granted, her loyalty to corporate interest might be hard to discern from her attendance at local charity events, but this is a rather standard technique among politicians of that stripe.

Keith has lived most of his life in Fairfield County, doing what good citizens of the community do, including serving in public office. There is nothing false of deceptive about him. He is just eager to recapture that seat for the benefit of the community, rather than the benefit of Wall Street. I hope he succeeds because I'm part of that community, too.
