The Diamond Traffic Products Unicorn Limited Traffic Classifier was attached by a chain and lock to a telephone pole in the area of Westport Road and Poplar Plain Road on Nov. 24 by a DOT employee.

When the employee returned the next day to retrieve it, he discovered that someone had cut the padlock and stolen the box.

"It's the first time I ever heard of one of those being stolen," Wilton police Lt. Donald Wakeman said. "Other than simple criminal mischief I don't know what the purpose would be to steal that."
